The brief: To create a brand icon.
The context: One of the top award winning brand & corporate design agencies in the UK commissioned me to help with some exploratory rounds in crafting an idealised portrait of a famous British Businessman and founder who lived in the 19th century. The final result of my artworks were not used later, due to a change in the overall design direction, yet I like to share this work as a fine example of my craftsmanship.
What I did: The challenge here was to create an idealised, simplified portrait of the Gentleman, who had a confident, committed and driven personality, a person that was proud of his achievments and had impeccable style. The intention of the portrait, placed in a frame, was to capture his human qualities and to allow an emotional connection to the brand. It had to work well in print, to be reproduced in small size on packaging.
