The brief: To create a on-pack illustration for a chocolate brand.
The context: Major german retailer Edeka Group is constantly developing new own product ranges, from basic brand quality to high-end-quality products. For this, their philosphy is all about using unique recipes, selected ingredients and conscientious production methods. In order to provide a sophisticated own brand of premium chocolates, the sub-range „Edeka World of chocolate“ was born. The design team of studio Heuer&Sachse signed responsable for the overall look and feel of the packaging and asked me to support them with some customized illustrations.
What I did: My challenge was to create a sort of exotic, jungle themed background illustration, with a south american Tucan sitting in a cocoa tree surrounded by cocoa beans, leafs and blossoms. The designers gave me precise informations about where to position the Tucan, in avoidance that layout additions like typeface and interferers would accidently cover the bird. A rather vintage classic, woodcut-ish- illustration style was chosen , to communicate a sort of old world charme and chocolate competence/ exotic heritage.
